Joel Nilsson / President & Education Officer

Hey there,

My name is Joel. I am a half Swedish, half French guy. I study game developing and for the last 7 years, I have also worked as a web developer and graphic designer in Malmö. I have been international pretty much my entire life. My father worked with social inclusion in Malmö, and thanks to this I was into the idea of social inclusion from a very early age. Since I started studying at Malmö University, I have had the good fortune to quickly meet a lot of exchange and international students and fell in love with what ended up being a major part of the following 4 years; the Erasmus Student Network. I love IT, games, programming, music, cooking, animals, good company and terrible humour.

Why the ESN Malmö board?

I was an active member for about 2 years until I decided to take the step and apply for the board; it felt like it was about time. Looking back, I should not have been so afraid from the start! It was one of the greatest choices I have ever made and I have grown more as a person, and I now have friends in most corners of the globe that would welcome me whenever I want to visit them. It has given me the amazing opportunity to travel, learn, teach, appreciate, be appreciated and feel included. I wanted to be a moving and improving force in the lives of students at Malmö University, whether they be exchange, international or local.

What do I do as President?

As President of the local board, I have strategic responsibility over the board’s actions. This means that I help the other members stay within the confines of what the association is meant to do while promoting healthy teamwork. I am also responsible for our contact with the Student Union and Malmö University and its International Office.
